Postures of Waiting
35mm slides, slide projectors, slide timer, embroidered glass-bead projection screen.
Dimensions variable.
2005.

In July 2005, I created an installation using slide projectors at the NOVA gallery space in Chicago. The project was called "Postures of Waiting" and was based on a series of photographs I took of people waiting at a bus stop across the street from my house. The photographs were taken as slides, and two slide projectors were installed in the gallery with a number of these slides of waiting passengers. A prepared glass-bead projection screen was also installed in the gallery, with the silhouettes of the waiting people stitched into the surface of the screen with embroidery thread. The slides were projected in sequence onto the screen, filling in one or two silhouettes at a time. A number of drawings on paper made using sets of these slides were also on view in the gallery.
